Nirathanka Tree Plantation Project
“A tree is beautiful, but what’s more, it has a right to life; like water, the sun and the stars, it is essential. Life on earth is inconceivable without trees.”

Project Description
Plantation of saplings & protection of them in a certain venue, based on mutual discussion and consensus.
Major needs:
Cost of the plants: It depends on the verity and size of the plant. Grafted saplings are more expensive than non-grafted ones. Indigenous, fruit-bearing, and ornamental saplings can be planted to protect the biodiversity of the locality. We suggest planting indigenous plants in open spaces and fruit-bearing saplings in school or college premises with the compound wall.
Planting and nursing expenses: Once the sapling is planted, nursing for at least two years is a critical task. Making watering and protecting arrangements of plants is a real challenge for anyone. Hence huge investment goes into aftercare activities. Apart from the plant purchasing cost, transporting, digging pits, and making sustained watering arrangements would be more expensive. Protective arrangements are also another primary concern here.
Venue: Deciding a venue to take up plantation activity is another significant task. The place must be conducive and ensures the protection of plant from all angles. The venue must ensure protection from external threats and make it easier to make watering arrangements. If it's fertile land, it would be more beneficial otherwise need to make arrangements for manure.
Duration of plantation activity: Recommended time to conduct plantation activities between June and October every year. Plantation activity can be organized anytime, but the survival rate is very low and needs to spend a considerable amount of money and time to nurse them.
External threats: Developmental activities that take place in school premises would be the only threat in these kinds of schools. Compared to other places, these kinds of schools are more protective than any other places.
Therefore, based on some experts' experience we would suggest take up any plantation activity in residential schools as each school premises has minimum 6 to 8 acres of land to take up plantation activity, surrounded by a compound wall and easy-to-make watering arrangements (drip irrigation) for all saplings. Monitoring is also a very easy task in this kind of school.
Protective and watering arrangements cannot be made for individual plants, and all the mentioned arrangements would be made for a minimum of 250 – 1000 saplings in one place. It is highly impossible to give 100% assurance to protect all saplings planted, but we would replant/replace them with another sapling in case of damage or vanish. The cost of saplings would be increased if the activity took place in the open space and on school premises without the compound wall.
App development for sapling plantation
Once the employee completes 10 km (or X number of KM walking), the employee and NGO get a notification to initiate the sapling plantation. This process and charges can be mutually discussed and can be finalized.
